I am looking at upgrading my irons and have been very interested in Maltby. I currently play TaylorMade M2s with stiff shafts and have had them since 2020 when I started playing. I have gotten significantly better since then with a handicap of about 11. I am looking at moving into a model that i can grow into as I go after single digits. I currently hit my 7 iron about 165-170 with the occasional flyer. What would the best model be for me?
I agree with Britt on the suggestions.
The TS1-IM’s are you Player’s Distance type of irons, with the hollow-body filled with goo and a tungsten weight. They were reviewed very favorably by Gabe at Let’s Play Thru on YT. It will still likely be a little shorter than your more pressed lofts in the TM’s with the 7-iron at 32*. But with the maraging face and foam-filled goodness, it might not be as big of a difference. Just depends on your swing and contact.
The TS3 is a great place to go if you’re looking for a fully forged club. It does have a co-forged tungsten weight in the toe of each club and it’s MPF is REALLY high, which usually translates to a more playable club.
Without a doubt these heads are where I’d start. I actually am in the process of gathering the TS1-IM heads to build out my own set, as I’m not ready for fully forged at this moment in time. But those TS3’s are on my radar sooner than later.
