I just had a custom set of TE+ V4’s put together and shipped out to me, and have played about 7 rounds with them so far. I havent hit any other irons, but I can definitely vouch for the TE+. Not only are they just beautiful, but they feel outstanding.
I was gaming Mizuno JPX923 Hot Metal Pro’s, and a couple months ago they were stolen :(. In my quest to replace them and save some coin I stumbled upon the Maltby name and decided to give them a shot. I was nervous going with a direct to consumer brand, but I have a friend who is a beginner and ordered a set of Lazrus hybrids to start with. They seemed decent, and everything I read about Maltby from places online I trust sold me. Boy was I impressed. Everyone who I play with now is like “never heard of em”. Then I pull them out in all their forged glory, and you can just tell people are impressed by them. Then they really light up when I tell them I got my 6-GW, a 4H, AND a 3w for less than I paid for my Mizunos. If Maltby keeps this up, theyve earned a customer for life.
In putting my set back together, I had a spare Cobra F9 driver head and just bought a cheap new xstiff shaft, and had a 20+ year old set of Vokey’s and TM Monte Carlo putter. Well, I was so impressed with my irons, im shelving the Vokeys again and just ordered a 52/56/60 set of Max Milled wedges too!
Id say get the TE+ v4’s. Theyre still super forgiving, but also give you room to grow as you advance and start to learn how to flight and shape your shots. Im not the best golfer, in fact I just hit 13.9HC, down from 15.3 since I got these clubs. Part of that is some customizations I added im sure. I had been fit before for my Mizunos, and there were some things I did different this time around after having played them for a couple years. I went with my normal fitting numbers, but decided to put +1.5* upright lie angle this time around (Im 6’4″), and oversized/jumbo winn grips. The confidence I have when swinging these really carries over into other parts of my game, I feel. When your confident and happy, youre committed to your shots. Good things happen.
