I am getting ready to purchase a club making bundle for a set of TS2 irons through Golfworks and need help with the shaft selection. I will build these myself and want to try KBS for the first time. I currently play True Temper M110 Uniflex in Callaway irons. I do not know my swing speed. 12 HDCP, I hit 7 iron 145-150 yards with a moderate tempo, maybe sometimes getting a little quick at the top. My clubs are 2 degrees upright and +1/2 length. Looking to go a little lighter as I get older (58 years) and my current clubs come are a D6 swingweight. I could also use a little higher ball flight. The Golfworks offerings have me considering the: Tour 105 Reg, Tour 90 Stiff, Tour 90 Reg. Reading some of the reviews leaves me concerned that the 90’s play quite soft which is the only reason I have the 90 Stiff as a consideration. These will be parallel tip and made +1/2 length. Currently leaning towards the Tour 105 Reg., but the Tour 90 sounds like it might be the perfect shaft.

We have never made the comparison on those shafts trimmed to the same length to know exactly how they would compare. If you look at the raw shaft frequency zone numbers, the taper tip would appear to be a stiffer profile, but it’s difficult to go by that since we’re not comparing apples to apples. If you look at the data on the S flex, the taper tip is .383″ in diameter at 5″ from the tip and the parallel is .372″ and stays .370 all the way to the first step. The .383 measurement would lead me to believe the taper tip continues to taper out and get bigger all the way to the first step. That means the tip section on the taper tip would be stiffer. This is the way it is on the Dynamic Gold shafts, which we have compared. On the Dynamic Gold S300 shafts we compared, the taper tip are more flexible in the butt end and at 7.5″ from the butt. They were similar at 15″ from the butt end and they were stiffer at the tip. It appears from the raw shaft numbers that the KBS .355 is a stiffer profile from the butt all the way to the tip, at least in the frequency numbers. That being said, without comparing the cut shafts I can’t be as definitive as I would like.
