Currently have an old KE4 Hybrid in my bag and I’m looking to replace it with the new KE4 Tour TC. My question is, will there be a noticeable difference in performance or will it just be a new clean looking hybrid. Appreciate your thoughts!
I can comment on the KE4 hybrid and the newer KE4 Tour TC. I played the former in a 19′ for a couple years with an Aldila VS Proto 80 gram shaft. Really liked the feel of that club and the ball flight, but it was not the most forgiving. The KE4 Tour TC 19′ with the same shaft is way more forgiving than its predecessor. I also find the KE4 Tour TC to be longer than the KE4 with a decent feel and good sound. Overall, I think the KE4 Tour TC is a major upgrade. Very pleased with this club.
For reference, I am age 55 and a 4 HC with a strong long game but terrible putting game.
I do not have experience with the original KE4 hybrid, but I played a KE4 Tour TC all last summer. I am 55 years old, and have been close to a scratch player my entire life. I also coached college golf for a stint…and I bring that up because I had access to every bit of equipment at ridiculously low prices through the college programs offered by manufacuturers…I have been a club junkie for many, many years, and I have always been a fan of Maltby. I “gamed” the M-45 irons for about 5 or 6 years until the conforming grooves rule came into play, for example, when I could have played any other set of irons. That said, I was underwhelmed with the performance of the KE4 Tour TC. It seemed a bit spinny, and lacking umph (for lack of better term), and a bit of a short-knocker club, in my opinion. It seemed to be about 1/2 club shorter than the Ping it replaced. It was not a hook machine club, dthough (like so many hybrids are for me)…so that was one of the good attributes. I only play one hybrid, and count on it for a distance of 200-210…the KE4 Tour TC 19* fell short of my expectations for this distance gap. I have the KE4 TC 3-wood in my bag, and though it too seems to lack a bit of pop, I enjoy it very much because it looks great, is dependable, is good off of the tee and deck, and I’m not really trying to fill a specific distance with it, per se. So…sorry for this rant, but “underwhelming” is my fair assessment of the KE4 Tour TC hybrid.
