Hi! I was playing quite a bit of golf 15 years ago down to about HCP 25 (so nothing to write home about). Back then I wanted to upgrade my clubs and a German fitter recommended the KE4s. I ended up buying them when visiting family in the US but actually never got around to having them built as I didn’t play much golf anymore once I started studying. I now started to pick up golf again a bit more frequently and still have the fully unused club heads in the storage.
The club heads read “KE4 Vibration Control” and I was wondering which of today’s irons they are most comparable to. They are PF851+.
Also, is there any downside from using club heads from 15 years ago?

I played those clubs back in the day! I would compare them to the KE4max but what you have would be weaker lofts. Those still should be very playable today!

Thanks a lot for the input. I am tempted to indeed get the newest KE4 Max which seems to have a higher game improvement rating than this older model. Is that correct and actually to a degree I would notice in my game?

The KE4 V were and are great clubs. Other than the lofts being a little weaker than today’s comparable models, they would still be a very good club to use. The KE4 MAX would be an Ultra Game Improvement option, as would the the KE4 S and KE4 Tour+. The KE4 S would probably be more similar in profile to the V, but still have 2 degree stronger lofts. The MAX lofts will be almost a full club stronger than the KE4 V’s, if that matters. The MAX is the newer of the models and we will be closing out the KE4 S and Tour + after this year. Can’t really go wrong from a playability standpoint no matter what you choose to go with. Happy to have you back playing this great game.

I did a fitting today where I also tested the TaylorMade Qi10 to get a sense for a modern day game improvement with stronger lofts and I really enjoyed playing these. Hence I indeed decided to get the KE4 Max instead and would appreciate some help with now choosing the right set as fitters here don’t have Maltby (I live in Finland). Given the great price I would love to buy one of the KE4 Max Paks but as I am not a shaft expert I am unsure which one fits best.

What I learned at the fitting today is that my club speed with a 7 iron is 85mph. The fitter recommended a lie adjustment of + 3 degrees up. Shafts he chose for me are the Graphite Design G-Tech R/S, std length, regular grip (I didnt like playing the iron shafts). Worth noting that he didn’t have many affordable graphite options. The Graphite Design cost twice as much here as in the US. If I would buy the TaylorMade Qi10 he would have given me MMT 65R as an of course more premium option that costs around 2x the price of the Graphite Design.

The TaylorMade with lie adjustment I hit the 7 iron around 150m / 165 yards carry.

Which of the Paks would best correspond to that with what flex and weight or should I rather configure one myself (budget is ~400$)? Is it possible to do lie adjustments on the Paks? Thanks for helping me out!
