Hi,

I have had my first two attempts last year at replacing/installing shafts and my second set of MMB-17’s came out pretty well. However, after a couple of rounds, a couple of the ferrules moved or the epoxy didn’t set well enough for the ferrule to stay in place.

I used the guide (very helpful) and applied a small amount of epoxy to the ferrule prior to sliding onto the shaft but it didn’t seem to take on a couple of irons.
Should I apply more epoxy for the ferrule? Is there a better tip/trick to keep these in place? Can it be re-epoxied?

Ferrules also benefit from a little prep. Abrade the inside of the ferrule with a brush you’d use for hosels. Ferrules are just plastic, so use a light touch. Then the epoxy should hold better. Hope this helps. Michael

You should use a liberal amount of epoxy when installing the ferrule and head, but not so much you can not easily clean it once you get the ferrule and head on and in place. A fact of club building and dealing with all clubs that have traditional top of the hosel ferules, they will occasionally come loose. Pierre’s suggestion is correct, you can dab some epoxy on the loose ferrule and tap it back into place and hopefully it will stay on for a while.

I employ a two-step fix should a ferrule come loose. First, I simply tap the ferrule back in place using a 3/8 open end wrench (for irons) and a small hammer. If the ferrule does not, after moderate use, remain in place; I’ll add a dab of epoxy and try it again. A drop of Super-glue might work; but I’ve never used anything other than shafting epoxy.
