Previous threads state the Maltby Pro Series shafts play slightly stiffer than the flex indicated. Does the M890 shaft play true to flex. If different how is different. softer / firmer.
Thanks.

The Maltby Pro Series shafts are often noted for playing slightly stiffer than their labeled flex, which has been a consistent observation across various user reviews and testing results. However, the M890 shaft is designed with a different target in mind. It is specifically engineered for higher launch and more forgiving flex, which caters to moderate swing speeds. According to feedback and testing data available, the M890 shaft generally plays true to its stated flex, especially when compared to the Pro Series shafts.
Unlike the Pro Series, which can feel firmer due to their stiffer profile, the M890 offers a smoother, more responsive feel. If there is any difference from the indicated flex, it might be marginally softer, particularly for players with slower swing speeds. This makes it a great option for those seeking a more forgiving experience without sacrificing control or consistency.
For reference, Maltby’s design philosophy behind the M890 has been to create a shaft that helps players with moderate speeds achieve better distance and control through a more flexible and forgiving profile. Detailed user feedback can be found on golf forums such as GolfWRX, and Maltby provides specific shaft fitting guidelines to help understand these flex characteristics better.
I’ll also say, the M890 shaft has worked better for me than expected, given the target demographic for this shaft. I’m not a “slow” swinger at 93mph driver swing speed, but do prefer a softer and more responsive feel which the M890 delivers. Biggest difference with these shafts for me has been the light weight more so than the flex. I didn’t expect to like the light weight nature, but its been working well in the TS3 heads. I wanted to give this a try, as I’ve been trying to get a little more height and spin, as I tend to de-loft a lot at impact. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the M890 shafts, especially at the price point.
Thank you both for the great information.
