I was curious why these weren’t made with a .355 or .370 bore. It seems to me that a hybrid shaft would suit their length and intended purpose better than a .335 fairway wood shaft, but would be interested in hearing why I’m wrong.
I have been thinking about adding a 23 degree to replace my 3/4 iron spot and to complement my 7 wood. I havent seen a lot of experiences posted about these, so I’d love to hear some feedback. Thanks!
Good question. Our thinking was that the HYWAY utilities were more like #7woods and #9woods. The .335″ hosel diameter just made more sense to us at the time. Your are not wrong is that they could have worked just as well with .370″ hosel, but the head weights were a little lighter than normal high lofted hybrids, intending that the playing lengths for the HYWAY’s would be slightly longer, like #7 woods and #9 woods. That was our reasoning. If you made them to shorter hybrid lengths, the swing weights would be lighter with the stock weight. You would need to add a heavier weight to get the swing weight up at the shorter lengths.
