After a 25 years off from golf I’ve gotten back into the game. I looked a at a number of options: full sets, used clubs, buying individual clubs to build a set, etc. I can’t remember how I found out about Maltby, but that also became an option, which I ended up ordering. My target budget was under a $1k.
I ended up getting the KE4 Max 5-G PAK (I was able to drop the 4 iron), 54° MAX Milled Wedge PAK 1.05, KE4 IST 4 Hybrid PAK, KE4 Tour TC 5 Wood PAK all with the Kuro Kage 2G shaft R Flex. I also added a Moment X putter. I didn’t get a driver because someone gifted me a Callaway Maverick Max driver. For me this setup was better than a sub-$1k set, I was able to get 5-wood instead of a 3-wood, and a much better putter than anything offered in a complete set. It also allowed me to add a sand wedge. I was able to find a very nice used bag on Marketplace for $50. I was all in at about $750.
I’ve taken a handful of lessons with a local pro and he says it’s petty much the perfect setup for me, and far exceeds the value and quality full sets priced at the $1000 price point. Anyway I highly recommend Maltby, for what it’s worth they look great. I’m very happy with my purchase.
About the only negative to my experience was there was a delay in getting my clubs due some of the iron heads being out of stock when I wanted to place my order. On the plus side, Maltby always answered my questions in a timely manner either by phone, email, or here.
I totally agree! With all the options golfworks has there is no reason to spend (waste) big money to pay for the marketing expenses of the big brands.
