That’s an oldy but a goody. Goes back to 2000-2001. Ralph’s design and the idea behind it was a larger face like you would see on a 400cc driver, but it was on a 250 cc aerodynamic body. According to the catalog back then, “This design increases clubhead speed by reducing drag, while maintaining the spring effect and forgiveness of a jumbo size titanium driver”. I was not here then (started a year later). In theory, smaller aerodynamic shape could reduce drag and increase clubhead speed. Fractionally, but it does occur. We see claims like that today as well with crown designs and shapes, etc. Larger, thin face maximizing ball speed is also valid. USGA dictates how fast the ball speed can be, even back then, and I can only assume the speed off of this driver was conforming at the time. I can’t find any data on any testing on it, but Ralph would not have sold it if it didn’t do what it was claimed to do. I do not have any data to compare to today’s drivers, so I don’t know if it would provide the same performance. My feeling is it would not be up to today’s standards, but you never know. You may crush it. I will let you know if I find any data. It was definitely an interesting looking driver.
