Is it going to be hard to open the club face and hit a bunker shot with a sole this wide? Is the sole wide for shots of the grass to not dig? Is that a general understanding?
Thanks

Sole width is only one variable and the 1.05 should work well in a variety of sand and turf conditions. Yes, as Whitley stated, wider soles tend to really work well in neutral to softer conditions, both sand and turf. The heel grind is also a consideration as to whether or not you can open the face some without the leading edge coming up too much. In neutral to soft sand conditions that should not be a factor. You can open the face on the 1.05″ if needed in a bunker and it should perform well. the .090″ sole width would be amore versatile in neutral to firmer conditions, but I played the M-Series .090″ sole width for years in all conditions and found it worked well, even in tight conditions. The players attack angle and technique is very important as well.
I do think more bounce and slightly wider sole angles with the proper front to back radius is better for the majority of players on all turf conditions. Don’t be fooled by thinking you need narrower soles and “tour grinds” for tight conditions. You may, depending on how shallow you are, what kind of sand and turf you play on, what kind of shots you like to play and how skilled you are, but I can tell you from experience that tour players play with more effective bounce that most people think. I know that’s kind of off topic, but wanted to add it into the conversation.
1.05″ is really not that wide compared our what our Glider was or some other models out there in the market. Like I said, it should be good in neutral to softer conditions, for sure. If you play on tight fairways or firm sand and want to open the face a lot on shots, and you have the skill level to do so, then a narrower sole might work better.

Depends on course conditions for sure. Softer ground and soft/lots of sand, square face you’ll be fine. I had trouble when opening up the .90 model for higher shots, and off tighter lies. Not sure why there isn’t a narrower version.
