I have access to a 3″ cut off tool or a 10″ miter saw. Which would be better to trim a graphite shaft with?
My gut tells me the miter saw since it shoudl be able to go thru it quickly but the cut off tool has a narrower blade so it might be more accurate.

In the past for one off builds, I’ve just clamped the shaft in a vice, and used my angle grinder with a cutoff wheel. As I started to build more, I picked up a mini chop saw with a cutting disc (3″ disc I believe) I got from harbor freight, trying to save a little space, but it was vastly underpowered. I just picked up a 6″ chop saw with 6″ cutting disc at Harbor freight, and it works great.. small clamp to hold the shaft while you make a nice smooth cut for either metal or graphite shafts using the cutting disc. Based only on photos, it appears to be very very similar to the 6″ chop saw I see on the GolfWorks site.
A miter or chop saw will work but make sure and use a cutting disc instead of a saw blade. I got mine at Harbor freight for like $35 and it cuts through steel and graphite with ease.
I use a 6 inch chop saw. It clamps onto the shaft I set it up and pull it down never had a problem with accuracy of the cut. Golfworks sells one as does Harbor Freight. Well worth the investment. As for your options I would opt for the miter saw as you should be able to hold the shaft more secure to make the cut.
