Is there anywhere to find the MPF for driver heads? I was looking at a Taylormade R5XL and was curious what the MPF was for that particular head. Thanks!
There is not specific chart for playability in drivers like there is for irons. One of the reasons is that there is harder to identify differences between today’s modern drivers with regards to their mass and dimensional characteristics. Basically, they are all 460 cc in size, all within grams of the same head weight, all have similar face dimensions, all with similar adjustment capabilities, etc. etc. Ralph went the process and although you could define minor variations in cg location, MOI, etc., trying to categorize the minor differences into meaningful playability differences just did not seem to make sense. That being said, it is important to understand that any given driver could perform better than another for any given player based on the fit, the set up, etc. Also, as long as you understand how cg location can affect performance in drivers, you should be able to understand if one particular design might be better for you. For instance, if you need to hit the ball higher, you need a combination of more loft and a cg that is more rearward and low. A driver with a cg higher and more forward would not be as playable for you. The opposite holds true as well.
