I notice the new PTM irons recommend a collared MA0300 ferrule, which is the first time I’ve seen a collared ferrule recommended for a Maltby head. I believe that, when used with a tapered steel or graphite shaft, it would be very beneficial.
Is the hosel of the PTM stepped to accept the ferrule collar? Another first for Maltby?
G,
Not a BIG concern if any. Most, if not all other component heads feature a beveled inside edge on the hosel. This eliminates a sharp edge against the shaft. The extra bit of epoxy that space provides serves as a cushion as well. However, like with the PTM irons, the gap that the step in the hosel, without a collared ferrule being used, will create a sloppy, and not an ideal fit.
Maybe my thinking is skewed, but I have a tendency to do things the proper way. I’d use the recommended ferrule.
