Hi All! I am fascinated by Maltby and it seems like a great approach in between getting fitted / sold mainstream brands vs blindly buying Takomo/DTC irons hoping for the best. Here are my questions below:
- I am a 5 handicap, Dad, 31 yrs old. My golf will consist of 12 rounds a year for the near future. I am obsessed though. I have been playing since a junior and my clubs are 14 years old. I am in need of irons and wedges. I currently play old Nicklaus JNS Ironmax Irons – they are cast/player looking irons. Not super fat, not super thin. Swing speed with a 7 iron is around 90mph and I hit it about 170-75yds. Is there an obvious iron head or combo set to look at within the Maltby selection? I like the idea of a good players looking iron head, but don’t hate forgiveness with my lack of playing. I don’t need massive distance, but want to feel confident when not playing a ton. I understand there is not perfect solution here, but wanted to get some ideas from those who understand this more.
- I am assuming I can get fitted at a Club Champion and bring all my specs to Golf Works to order. Am I missing something here?
- Why look at Maltby over something like Takomo? Just curious on thoughts. It seems clear that there is a notch up on quality and thoughtfulness with Maltby. This forum is proof of that too!
Thank you to anyone willing to add thoughts to my rambling above. Cheers to nerding out on this!
Additional Thought:
– Please point me to a youtube video, forum post, or article that explains the several factors in the MPF. Looks like Maltby heads look amazing and remain in the Super Game Improvement Category. That is impressive.
