Hi!
I’m a 67-year-old golfer with a single-digit handicap. My swing speed is not great, however, at 88-90 mph with a driver.
I’m looking to change my irons this winter as I played and practiced a lot with my actual irons and I’m due for an upgrade.
My TM 790 first-generation (2017) irons have True Temper Dynamic Gold 105 shafts and am looking to replace them with newer irons.
I was fit recently for a set of 2023 P-790 (which I haven’t bought yet) but unfortunately, I suspect they were (fitter) TM bias because we didn’t try a lot of different brands than TM during the session.
I read very good/amazing reviews on the Maltby and I’m looking at the TS1 -IM with his “foam injected” like my P-790 and the TS3 with a progressive cavity design. I will also look at going with lighter shafts and I was looking at the True Temper Elevated 95 or the Nippon Pro 950GH cause I won’t be picking up much speed in the years to come and this could help me I believe. I don’t know if I should go with graphite or stay with light steel…
I enjoyed my TM P-790 but the new generation (in Canada) is going for over $2,000 after tax (4 to PW) which is pretty steep especially when there are more affordable alternatives.
Graduating from the P-790 is there one of the two that I should lean toward? The “foam injected” TS1-IM (like my P-790) or a cavity design like the TS3 will help me better at my age. I need distance but not at the expense of forgiveness.
Thanks,
Luc
Thanks.
Yesterday, I finally ordered a 7-iron TS1-IM and a TS3 with two different shafts that respected the fitter’s recommendation. I couldn’t decide between the two models. I will have them both adjusted to the fitter’s specs and choose which combination best fits me performance-wise and look-wise before ordering a full set of Maltby at GolfWorks.
