What is the difference in using the pin method versus the ground plane method in measuring club length. I have heard Taylor Made uses the pin method. Is that why their clubs are always longer than most others?
If you are referencing the pin method like the ruler that Mitchell Golf has sold for years https://www.mitchellgolf.com/shop/repair-tools/clublength-ruler-measuring-tool-kit/ the measurement should be the same as the measurement of putting a 48″ ruler down the back of the shaft with the club setting in the playing position. Our GolfWorks Bench Ruler (MA2010) takes a measurement down the center line of the hosel of the club and the measurements on this ruler will be longer than measurements taken with the 48″ ruler. https://www.golfworks.com/maltby-bench-top-club-length-ruler/p/ma2010/ If you look at the drawings on our Standard Length Chart https://www.golfworks.com/images/art/StdLengths.pdf
I cannot speak for Taylor Made and you would have to check with them on how they measure their clubs for finished lengths. I am aware that with some of their irons they assemble to longer finished lengths than some of the other manufactures. They list an M3 #5 iron as 37.75″ finished length but the M4 #5 iron is 38.25″. The new P790 irons are 37.75″ for the # 5 iron.
Found the following in another forum. I’ll let others decide what they’re trying to say. I find it confusing.
