I would like to replace two shafts in a 17 degree 980f and a 21 degree 980f. I’m looking for a flexible tip so they don’t feel too stiff due to the bore-through design. Any suggestions?
Hello, Moe, you haven’t specified what flex you need, just that you want the tip to be softer due to the bore through design of the 980f. Remember that you may be able to reduce the tip cut for those to make the shafts softer. Most wood shafts recommend some amount of tip cutting for 17 and 21 degree fairways.
You may want to choose a higher launching shaft, like the Maltby wood shaft – https://www.golfworks.com/maltby-mpf-distance-graphite-wood-shafts/p/MA0248/. I’ve been pleased with their performance for my customers. This will have a softer tip and may serve your needs quite well, and is what I recommend. Hope this helps! Michael
I think I’m just going to cut the existing shaft off at the hosel and bore out 1 1/2 inches. That way I don’t have to worry about changing the stiffness profile.
