At least two manufacturers that I know offer shafts ostensibly designed for strong lofted heads: Nippon (Neo) and True Temper (Mid).
Are these designs really addressing a technical issue? Or is this just an attempt to carve out a marketing niche?
If these are technically sound designs, why wouldn’t any higher launching shaft address the issue?
Although the Neo does call out the stronger lofts and larger heads, it’s the active tip section that makes the difference. Any shaft that says Mid or High launch (and spin) can accomplish what the Neo discusses. There have been other shafts over the years that have looked to increase launch to help with the stronger lofts, although few actually say that’s the reason. TrueTemper XP and Elevate are the first to come to mind. Project X has come out with the Red model to give the same feel as the regular but with a softer tip and thus more launch and spin. Graphite shafts are another great option for helping with launch, as many are at least mid launch with many more higher launching. It’s just not finding a shaft that says it’s built for strong lofts. The mid/high launch and spin characteristics are what you’re looking for.
