How critical is the swing weight from driver through wedge? If, for example, the driver is a C7 would it make any difference if the irons were a D3?

Doesn’t matter what the number is. What matters is if the club fits you and the feel is what you want. If you have that, the swing weight number does not matter. The nature of the components in irons and the length specs and the components in drivers and the length are usually quite different and generally will yield different swing weights. Most of the time the driver head weights are slightly heavier because of the length of the club, but the number is totally dependent on the weight of the components and the length you make the club. In short, just get the club head feel you want and don’t worry about whether or not the Driver matches the irons in swing weight.
