Played forged Maltby for a long time, and got to know PX 5.5 steel like the back of my hand. But I’m approaching a time when I can benefit from something more shock absorbing. I like economy, and who doesn’t. I really like the look of the Maltby pro series this year and like the price point. I’ve read some good reviews on the Grafftec as well, but the brand is a bit foreign to me. I may try the Maltby series in a stiff, I’ve heard good things about them.

It’s an age old subject, but whose got some ideas on a shaft that’s economical and fairly stout? Played the excaliber tours and loved em. Thanks all.

I have built many demos that I use in my club fitting work and I hit every one of them to see how they perform. I have been very impressed with the new ProSeries, and I like the new paint job, too. Very similar feel to me as the Tour X XCalibers.

It’s not the lightest graphite iron shaft out there, but better players and ball-strikers usually don’t want it too light. I found ball flight more mid than high in the R and S flexes. Very smooth feel through impact without a lot of torque. I think if you try one as Britt suggested, you’ll be pleased. Also, if you really like your Project X’s (I do, too) and just want a softer feel, you might consider installing a cork in the butt end of the shaft when you regrip them. Might actually accomplish the softer feel you’re after. Hope this helps! Michael
