When tip trimming a shaft that will be installed into a head that doesn’t have a “standard” bbtg measurement, should the trim be adjusted to account for the difference? Also, what would be the “standard” bbtg measurement, I thought it was 1 inch?
For example, if the bbtg on club x is 1.25 inches and the tip trimming chart says to tip trim 2″ should it be trimmed 2.25″?
You can adjust the trim to account for the difference. It is a more precise way to trim. That being said, there is so much variation in what a “standard” bore is these days, you could be adjusting on just about every club. Modern drivers bbtg is more like 1.25″ to 1.5″. Irons are approximately 1″. An additional .25″ trim or .25″ less trim will have a small effect on the overall playability of the shaft, but you can do it to offset variations in what is loosely still considered a “standard” bbtg.
