What is the standard rule when tip trimming a driver shaft to alter flex? If you tip trim a regular shaft one inch what would that equate to in flex?
Very generally speaking, 1″ tip rim on a graphite wood shaft would increase the stiffness by approximately 1 flex. I can tell you from experience that is not always the case. 1″ will stiffen the shaft, but it might be a little less than a full flex. Also, you need to know what the parallel tip section length is before cutting from the tip. Most driver shafts today are no more than 3″ parallel tip section length, so cutting any more than an inch could restrict the installation depth. All depends on the bore depth, or the depth of the adaptor. The parallel tip section length has to be at least the same length as the adaptor depth or the bore depth.
