I have been playing TS1 for a few years now – and really like them. I’m curious about the TS1 IM compared to them. Is the primary difference between them the visual aesthetics? Any performance differences? In feel?

It’s the new year and I have the new club itch. So many interesting Maltby options. My bias is towards something that looks like I can play when that’s not entirely the truth. (7-10 index is range of my index flux) If there is some performance difference in the IM vs older TS1, that would make it an easy call – it’s hard to want to essentially replicate a set.

Other than the spec differences you can see on our website, I would add the toe height is very slightly higher on the TS1-IM, sole width is very slightly wider and the topline is slightly thicker on the TS1-IM. The TS1-Im is a different construction with the the face being a high strength maraging steel and the body is carbon steel. The TS1 is all carbon steel. Both are injected with a special polymer and both have internal tungsten weighting. I played the TS1’s for two years (loved them) and tested the TS1-IM’s extensively when we developed them. I could absolutely play the TS1-IM’s. Actually I like the look a little better, although the difference is very subtle. Full disclosure, I switched to the TS4’s and now play them. I designed the TS4’s and just like that profile a little better, for me. However, if you are looking to try something similar to the original TS1 but want a “next generation” version, the TS1-IM’s would be worth a try. Try just a #7 iron first to see if you like it. Best way to know for sure before investing in the entire set.
