The TS3 is rated slightly higher in the MPF (849 vs 772 MPF points), but both fall into the Super Game Improvement category. the TS3 might be slightly more forgiving, based on these numbers, but most probably would not notice a 77 point difference when they are both very stable designs. The TS3 has a slightly lower actual vertical cg, which could be helpful with trajectory. The TS3 is a true forged design, where the STi is investment cast. That doesn’t have any bearing on performance, but the material and method of manufacturing are different. Some players may claim that the forged carbon steel “feels” better, but in blind tests that has been proven to be not necessarily true. Besides, the 431 stainless the STi irons are made from is heat treated resulting in properties that are very similar to the carbon steel.
I think the profile is a little different, with the TS3 having a lower heel area. Also, the TS3 has slightly less offset.
So I don’t think there is a bad choice. The TS3 is newer, has a cleaner cosmetic in my opinion, and will be around for several more years. The STi has been a great performer for us and we will continue to sell this year and will faze it out in 2025, if that makes a difference.
Hope this helps.
