Hey golf world, I know OEM’S been using tungsten in clubs for a while now,but in particular golf irons many companies put tungsten in the toe , some in the toe and heel or toe and hosel, i know recently Taylormade made put tungsten in Tiger’s irons in the center behind the sweet spot , Also KZG golf has a club that has tungsten in the heel, center and toe what effect does that have on feel etc and does it matter where you put it at ?
Tungsten is used because it is much heavier than stainless or carbon steel and allows designers to put more weight with less material in specific places. It should be used to manipulate or to insure the center of gravity is in the correct position. I can’t speak for what why other designers put it in certain places, but I would hope the intent was to help position the cg in the best place to enhance performance. We put it in the toe of our TS-1 and TS-2 irons to help get the cg properly positioned both horizontally and vertically. Tungsten only effects feel in so much as how it effects the cg. If it is used to create a well balanced design with the cg in the proper place, the “feel” should be good.
