I am currently struggling with my hybrids (Mizuno St-Z 230 3 and 4) with any graphite shaft I put into it.

I am hitting my irons pretty well and they have TT DG 105 S300 shafts, so I was thinking since the bore is the same size I could install an adapter to the steel shaft and it should work the same.

Is there anything that would prevent this from being attempted or at least being unlikely to work? I would assume I’ll have to play with the shaft length a little to get the right swingweight and such, but I figure if i use the GW standard club length chart as a guide for the hybrid degree to length, I should get close.

If the steel shaft is shorter the club will play flatter and may have a tendency to go right.

That would almost be a welcome sight. Currently everything is a hook, pull hook, or duck hook.

I have a Maltby Trouble out hybrid ( circa 2010 model) that i had same issue. I ended up putting the same shaft in it as my irons FST Pro 115, and it was perfect for me.

My son has it now, but I do often look at it and wonder if i should take it back. Its too good for him.

Yes, you can use a steel shaft with the hybrid you would need to get the proper adapter to install the shaft into it. I believe that adapter uses a .370 shaft so you would want to ensure it was the correct tip size shaft. Typically the overall length between steel and graphite is .5 inch shorter for a steel shaft.

Before you try that though have you tried adding some lead or tungsten weight to the clubhead to see if increasing the swing weight would help with your success without a reshaft?

I have not, and honestly I wouldn’t even know how to go about doing that in a way that would be appropriate.

It is pretty simple you can order some lead tape or tungsten weights. I recommend the tungsten (link below) as it looks better and well it isn’t lead. I would start with 1 square on the back skirt of the hybrid the pic they show is that exact spot. Then hit some balls and see how it goes. You can move it on the same skirt area toward the toe (fade bias) or toward the heel (draw bias). When I would work on adding weight, I would use impact stickers to record how impact patterns were on the club. Then after I would look at my best results and go with that.
