Recently I bought 2 sets ( 2nd set appeared 1week after 1st set with Graphite shafts so bought them) of T200 Irons, first set was 4-gw AMT R300 Black steel shafts with Golf pride plus 4 grips which I didn’t like from the get go. I did my review of them and think I found out why? Why is the inconsistent swing weight from D0 to D2.5 wow big surprise for me for expensive irons, actual weight of each iron is up and down such as the 7iron being heavier than the 6iron by 11grams and total weight being similar.

2nd set of T200 Irons is 6-gw, Mitsubishi chemical R80 Metal Mesh Technology graphite shafts with Wynns Dritac Oversize grips which I loved from the get go. So did my review as above, swing weight was gap wedge D5 with the rest D4. With a descending total weight upto the 6iron, I’ve been using the leaderboard swing weight algorithm to determine the swing weights with a verification on my friends Golfworks swing weight scale so I’ve proved my algorithm is within .3 of his toy and often a match. I bought the MMT shaft T200 because I thought this shaft would suit me and happy I’m right, my question is why is there so much difference in two sets of irons and why within the 1st set so much difference between each iron with no uniformity of that set. I always thought I was behind the 8 ball buying the cheaper irons and driver, I’m thinking maybe I was lucky because I would of been very “upset” paying so much for so little. I can understand WHY the owner of the steel set didn’t keep them but not so much with the graphite set but guess he had a good reason to change, flex probably. Without examining the sets it would difficult to know for sure, but TBrandt is correct on the head weight tolerances and the affect they can have. Grip weights, shaft weights, shaft balance points, club length variances, etc. all can have an effect. A 2 – 2.5 swing weight variance in a set is not uncommon, even on custom built, expensive irons. Off the rack sets it can be more, in my experience.

Thanks Britt, ok I guess I got lucky with the 2nd set with Graphite shafts. Either they were setup right from Titleist or the owner did it, my thinking is the owner did it. Thanks..

The T200 irons are a forged head with tungsten weights placed in heel & toe (66grams total). The accepted variance for forged heads is plus/minus 3 grams; with 7 gram increments between club heads. Its possible one head was 3 grams light, the other 3 grams heavy. When I build a set, I weigh all the club heads first to compensate for any variances. For instance, standard weight for a 6 iron is 261 grams, 7 iron is 268 grams. Its possible one head was too light, while the other was too heavy (both still being within tolerance). Should be an easy adjustment to disassemble clubs and reset swing weights

for a qualified club builder. This is not uncommon for “off the rack clubs”. I’m always on the lookout for Pro-Line sets of used clubs. The first thing I do

Is check loft, lie, and swing weights. More often than not, I end up reassembling clubs to stated manufacturer specs.

Thanks Tim, appreciate you taking the time to reply. I’m lucky I got a set that suits me, I don’t have the tools to check loft and lie angle and I don’t have the skills either. My dispersion and smash factor has improved immeasurably with the graphite shafts, I think the grips have helped as they feel so comfortable. My Rapsodo launch monitor tells me I’m left side of the fairway or straight, actually I’ve not practiced as much in years thats how much encouragement I’ve got from that instant feedback. Cheers Colin
