Hello,
I know this is directed toward Britt and folks that work at Maltby but I can tell you why Maltby appeals to me as a customer.
The first thing that appealed to me was that they offered Ultra Game Improvement clubs at a price point that is extremely attractive. I was looking to get back into golf after a considerable absence and wanted a set that would help me get back to where I was without breaking the bank. I knew that it was going to be a process so having a solid foundation of forgiving clubs was ideal.
As I researched other direct to consumer clubs I noticed some differences between Maltby/Golfworks and other brands. Maltby didn’t advertise much. It seems like the brand’s popularity is primarily supported by word of mouth from satisfied customers. When looking at reviews online there were not a ton but the ones that exist seem to confirm the company’s claims on their various clubs. It gave me confidence that I was going to get clubs that were correct for what I was looking for and it turned out to be a good choice.
Another thing I appreciated was that they have a formula they use to study golf clubs in the MPF. They study themselves and they study others. This tells me they not only have a process but it seems like it provides a little transparency into their process. At minimum it is am interesting data point.
Finally, and I touched on this earlier, they don’t seem to get overly involved in marketing and promoting themselves. They don’t even have hats and shirts to promote their brand (I’d definitely wear a hat if they sold them though). The only thing they have that seems branded is a catalog, golf bag, head covers, and clubs. This tells me that their primary focus is on their clubs and service. The fact they generate so much positive word of mouth and the fact their clubs I have are exactly as described tell me its working.
Maltby has a lot of endearing qualities going for them. The fact they communicate with folks on the forum is a cherry on top of it all.
