In some cases, sure, older models of any brand can have a higher MPF than a newer one. But what constitutes “progress” to one person or company is not progress to another. It’s easy for those of us who appreciate Ralph Maltby’s playability scale, to assume that everyone would want to design and use clubs with higher playability. Sad to say, it’s just not so!
For what it’s worth, I’m convinced that you cannot get better quality and playability in clubs than you find with Maltby/Golfworks. I have a customer who has a set of DBMs and a set of Ping i55’s. He much prefers the DBMs and considers what he paid for the Pings to be money wasted.
Rather than getting an older set of Pings with a high MPF and then getting them reshafted, I’d highly recommend just being properly fitted for a new set of Maltby’s. All models are either super or ultra game improvement!
Hope this helps you!
