I am hitting the ball off the toe with my irons and I was told by a local club fitter that shortening my clubs would help with that problem. The thing is, that sounds counter intuitive. What is your opinion?
If the clubs at there current length are too long for you (or too short), then shortening the club (or lengthening) to the length that fits you would be the first thing to do. If, however, the current length fits you, then you need to consider seeing a qualified teaching professional to determine the cause of the toe strike. While it is true that shorter clubs are generally easier to hit solid than longer clubs, the length of the club should fit your game. One thing we have seen is that adjusting the swing weight can actually improve the consistency of the strike. Again if the current length actually fits you, and I’m not saying add a lot of weight, you could add a swing weight or two of lead tape to the head and see if the impact changes. If not, at least you know. First priority to to verify the length that is absolutely the right fit, then go from there.
