From my experience with Maltby carbon irons, the least prone to dings is the 8620, followed by 1035, and then 1025, which is the reason I picked the TE+ Black DBM over the Pearl finish TE+. I don’t like to play with iron covers, but to minimize bag chatter, it’s a good idea to use them when storing or traveling.
Thanks, Larry.
The 1025C carbon steel is the same we have used for many of our models. No softer or harder than most other forgings on the market. All forged carbon steel irons, and even cast carbon steel irons that are heat treated properly, will ,over time, get some ding marks or chatter marks if they are banged around the bag under normal course of play, whether you carry or use a cart. I have TS4’s and have played them ever since they came out and they have some, but nothing unusual. If you want to keep them pristine, like new, iron covers would be the only way. Not a fan of iron covers myself, but you could use them to help minimize the normal wear and tear that can occur as irons clang around the bag.
