Several things in your statement that needs addressing. First, you should not adjust length in an attempt to make the lie mark hit the sole in the right place. If the best length for you is 1/2″ shorter, then fine, adjusting the length shorter can change the results you get on the lie board. However, you have a “correct” length for you and the lie should be fit based on that length. Secondly, your swing, angle of attack, etc. determine where the club will contact the ground. Sometimes when the indication is flat and the club is bent, the mark on the sole may not move. Same holds true for upright. Sometimes the mark moves, sometimes it does not. In a perfect world, it would move a little for every degree you bend it. Reality is, in many cases, it does not. It may be you need the club more flat, but I have fit literally thousands of players in my lifetime and the number of players that require a flat lie of more than 2 degrees I can count on two hands. I have fit players that no matter how much adjustment is made the sole mark stays either heel side (indicating needs to be flatter) or toe side (indicates needs more upright). In those cases, and in all cases, you should be looking at the ball flight. Is the ball flight on target? Is the ball starting online? If it is, the fact that the sole mark is not exactly in the center of the sole is not a major concern. You want to bend the club in the direction needed, but I would be surprised if your actual lie need is more than 2 or 3 degrees. Focus on the ball flight.

Well that solves that one. Thanks Britt.
