Hi, looking at these, seems to be something for me, so I’m going to try one. I need .355 for my Ping I20’s. The softest flex is R+. As my iron swing speed is somewhere in the high ‘60’s , maybe 70 so I need a Sr or A flex. Can I soft step these, and if I do, 2x would seem to be the correct amount?
If I did that, would I run into issues at the butt end losing too much of the parallel section where the grip goes? In other words would the grip install be on part of the shaft that tapers towards the tip?

Generally speaking do these shafts play true to flex? Thanks.

The taper tip version of the PGI, Starts tapering anywhere from about 4-5 inches from the butt on the 36″ to about 7 inches on the 39″. That’s based on me quickly checking one of each in our warehouse, so the measurement might not be exact. The PGI shafts are a little firmer than the Average R flex graphite shafts, hence the R+. I verified that by looking at he averages in our database. So soft installing your 6 iron on the 7 iron shaft will probably get you about a 1/2 flex, so probably more like an average R flex. If you double it up, you will soften the playability some more. Basically you will be cutting off 1″ more from the butt end for the given club. Example, you put the 6 iron head on the shaft meant for the 4 iron, you will be cutting 1″ more from the butt to get to the 6 iron playing length, which means you are cutting off more of the larger diameter portion of the shaft. So, you might have to watch how the grip fits. Might require some extra tape on the lower hand portion of the grip.
