I snapped off the graphite shaft in my Great Big Bertha Iron. I want to move to a steal shaft that is light. I choose the Nippon Zelos 7 iron shaft but don’t know if I am supposed to purchase the 370 or 355? Could someone help as I cannot find information on whether the 2023 Great Big Bertha uses 370/355?

Looking at the Maltby chart I would assume it’s .370″
Most of their current irons are .370 with exception of the “pro’s”.

I looked at the chart but the list stops at 2021 for Callaway and this is the newest model :(

It looks like I was wrong when I guessed it had to be a .370 tip. It’s a .355 after all:.

Those specs show the tip diameter to be 9.02, which is, of course, millimeters.

The conversion factor I always use is 25.4mm=1 inch. So 9.02mm/25.4=.355

(or .3551181, as far as this calculator goes).

I see it as a fairway wood that looks like an iron. As I said before, I conjured up a version of this many years ago now using a #1 iron and a graphite wood shaft…so I get the basic idea and have some experience with it too.

Don’t recall ever hitting it off a fairway however. Your results may vary with that GBBI, of course.

The 2023 Callaway Great Big Bertha is a .370 hosel. It is the one I measured for the MPF. You can see it at the link below to compare if it is the same one you have. I am pretty sure that all the Great Big Bertha irons over the last few years have had a .370 hosel.

Mine is not an answer but more an opinion.

Most if not all hybrids use a .370 shaft, so unless your GBBI is at least as long as a hybrid and is at least a similar if not identical low loft, it’s hard to see it as intended to go “further”* than a hybrid . Which almost certainly makes it a .370.

[* aren’t they all and don’t they claim to be too, though.]

You can verify this for yourself about the shaft tip by buying an outside (but also inside) caliper if you don’t already have one.

Amazon sells any number of them for about $30 each. I’ll opine one of those will serve you well with regard to many things other than golf…but certainly golf too. Right here it’ll save you the cost–or more–than will buying the wrong shaft and having to buy the right one.

That said…I built myself a “driving iron” by reshafting a #1 iron with a .335 tip shaft many years ago now. IIRC it was a Hogan Edge, and I’m sure I still have it. After a LOT of shimming it turned out to be a very good club.

It was longer for me then than any hybrid is today…but I played to a 3 handicap then too. Today? Not so much, so I can only compare them by memory (a bigger vs. big fish story, I guess).

Thanks for the help, however the shaft I am looking to put in is for a Great Big Bertha Iron, which came out this past year. I am ordering a shaft and getting someone local to put it in. There are very few options where I live.
