I have been reading and looking at different Brands and how they position swing weight Ping Irons using weight just in the toe, heel or hosel where it can be changed to increase performance vs PXG using their screw weight directly behind the sweetspot in addition to tungsten coforged in the toe ,Callaway Apex sets are using there own weight cartridge behind the sweetspot in addition to weight in the toe and heel, does that somehow increase performance and giving consumers and fitters more options to truly dial in a players game opposed to sets that don’t have that option? And just wondering if Maltby ever did let’s say add a screw weight behind the sweetspot will that increase Mpf , stay the same or decrease MPF at best it would probably be more beneficial for players and fitters maybe? Curious,,,,

The only thing that matters is where the cg is located. The facts are the longer the C-dimension (cg location horizontally from the hosel centerline), the lower the actual vertical cg and the more rearward the cg, the more stable the club head is. Where external, or internal weights are only should matter in how they effect where the cg is. We use external and internal weighting as well as different materials to help us manipulate where the final cg is going to be with the goal to enhance the playability as much as possible for the design. We have done a screw weight in the center of the cavity (behind what you would call the sweet spot) before on the KE4 Forged iron back in 2012. Designed the head so we could do that and still maintain a high level of playability. Weights in that area do not enhance the sweet spot or make the clubs feel better on center hits just because they are there. If done properly, they can be there because that is where they need to be to position the cg in the best place for a high level of performance. Over the years there have been plenty of examples of designs that put weight in the center of the back that claim enhanced feel or performance or whatever, but in reality the cg is not in a good place the designs do not have a good playability.

At the end of the day it only matters where the center of gravity is located, no matter the mechanisms used to get it there (ie: weights in the toe, the center, the toe and heel, etc.).
