discuss, ask and learn about golf and clubmaking

I love helping people "play better golf," whether through golf lessons, custom club fitting and set building, or by repairing their clubs. I have been trained by Jim Yachinich at three different schools at Golfworks. I am certified on the Mitchell Signature Angle and Putter Angle machines. I am also Titleist Performance Institute Certified.

Torx screw weights

Jim or Britt, The 2 gram Torx screw weights are easy to strip, I imagine because they are made of aluminum so they can weight just 2 grams. What is the recommended way to remove it once it is completely...

Looking for graphite iron shaft suggestions

Check Britt's answers to the questions on the Paderson Kinetixx shaft in X flex and the thread about the Pro Series shafts. Basically, he said that the current Pro Series S flex is the same as the new...

The new STi2 will only have a cosmetic change. No change in the MPF, which is 772.

If you don't find a 6 iron head in the M890, I have one.

The MPF will be the same as the current STi2, which is 772. This is according to Jim Yachinich's answer to the same question on the STi2 iron page on the Golfworks website. https://www.golfworks.com/maltby-sti2-irons-heads/p/ma0317/...

Paderson Kinetixx iron shaft in X flex

Britt or Jim, What do you have that compares well to the Paderson Kinetixx TS-1 iron shaft which you used to carry in X flex? It's a low torque 88 gram shaft. Could the current Pro Series S flex be tip...

Classic vs modern lofts

I’d suggest that you build one club and compare it to your current set. The Series 5 steel shaft is 116 grams. A pretty good comparison might be the True Temper Score LT, which is 117 grams and an excellent...

If I may, I’d also like to suggest the Graftech 55 shaft. I know it’s an inexpensive option, but I have been surprised by the quality and performance of this shaft. I have built a driver with it for...

Why not play the most forgiving

The most forgiving irons address just one dimension of what golfers are looking for in an iron. Some want more distance and there are irons that give more distance usually with lower lofts or a hollow...

For many golfers, putting is mostly about feel. I’m not sure a zero torque putter would help with that. I remember having my best rounds of putting with a wood shafted putter! Definitely not zero torque,...

Interesting, theblake7! However, wouldn’t making the clubs shorter make the lie angle greater? Think in terms of driver lie angle versus wedge lie angle and you’ll see what I mean. The longer the...

Thank you, Britt. I agree. That’s what I’ve used since I received training there from you all.

Yes, at your swing speed, I think you might even consider a steel shaft, especially if you have them in your irons.

Larry, if memory serves, they stopped making the 3 years ago, but since they are harder to hit, it shouldn’t be hard to find one. Maybe even on this forum!

How many of you are using Maltby putters?

I agree that Maltby putters are excellent, but I also agree with DB Golf - get properly fitted first.

Testing for lie angle

This question is especially for Jim and Britt. There seems to be disagreement about how to fit for lie angle. Some use lie angle boards with or without the tape on the sole. Others use a marker line...
