I attended a Clubmaking, fitting, and repair class in 2005. We got to go visit Mr. Maltbys shop at his residence (it was offsite from golfworks). I was blown away with all the things he did and I believe...
Britt I’d love to have some 16 and 18 gram weights available for the Pro FW heads. They come in a little light for me and my shorter club lengths.
I just used the last of what I had. I’m trying to source some but no luck right now. I’ve either got to buy the professional setup or try the yarn trick.
Hot melt will definitely help the sound. What I did with one was remove the rear weight and warm the front portion of the sole. Get your hot melt really warm and warm the syringe needle with a micro torch....
A lot of solvent and I’ll take my sanding barrel and just taper the opening/start of the grip.
Verlin if you’re interested I have a very slightly used set of TS3.5 heads I can sell you. If you don’t build clubs, I could build them out for you.
I’ve got issues with my hands and wrists. I think the TE+ is one of the best feeling heads Golfworks makes. Get the satin version cause DBM will be firmer feeling. my irons are built with Recoil shafts...
Sam my opinion would be work on your game and don’t change any of your equipment yet. Learn to hit a “flighted” wedge shot. The amount of swing speed you have is going to hit the ball high due...
Over on another forum there’s been several guys building sets that are TE+ in the long irons and TS4 in the short irons. They blend in really nice.
As long as it’s a .370 tip shaft it will work. Even if it were .355 you could make it work with a shim or by trimming the bottom 1/2”-5/8” of the .355 tip shaft.
If you’re comparing to TaylorMade 790 I’d say that would compare to the TS1-IM. Players distance iron that’s injected. bring your current clubs and make sure whatever they suggest is a improvement...
Personally I’d love to see it. You could really do a nice set of .370 shaft with 85 weights in the middle irons and 95 weights in the short irons and possibly the wedges.
So how would I know what shaft works for Maltby heads without a fitting? Do most people just guess based off their swing profile? a good fitting should be based on bringing what you’re playing with...
It’s very player dependent. How big and strong of a kid is he? If he’s big and strong he may handle steel shafts fine by simply choking down. Otherwise lightweight steel or graphite might be a far...
For myself I feel that shorter length blade irons are easier to keep square or slightly closed than the longer blade iron designs. It’s not a huge difference but it’s there for me. YMMV
I would agree with Ryan’s suggestions for heads.
Britt I’d love to see a driver head model that would be somewhere between the Pro and Max.
I’ve made little cardboard discs or discs out of heavy paper (like old business cards). Use just a dab of epoxy to keep it from falling off the shaft tip. Golfworks sells these which could work fine....
If Britt reads this and if he has it in his shaft database he can give you some suggestions.
Can you use matrix 85 stiff shafts? if you’re playing regular you could soft step these stiff two times to get a “firm” flex. https://golfdealsandsteals.com/collections/shafts/products/new-graphite-matrix-ozik-program-f15-85-iron-shafts-see-drop-down-menu?variant=40479588352194
