I was fitted into the JPX925 with a DG 120x shaft and 2* upright. My 7-iron swing speed is between 78-85, so let’s say 82 mph. I have a fairly quick tempo/transition. I hit the club well and generally liked it, other than the cost, but the X flex was unexpected. He said a heavier shaft would fit me better as well

I also hit a T350 with an AMT Red R flex at a local golf shop. Also hit it well and liked it off the mat, but I’m now confused by the shaft differences…

Which Maltby head would be most similar to the JPX925 and the T350? TS3.5?

I ordered a TS3 with the MPF Pro Series + R flex shaft prior to the fitting. I like it too…but do want to hit it more.

Any recommendations for different shafts than the DG 120x? Ideally, I keep the TS3 and complete the set, but would rather buy something that fits better if there is a better option in the Maltby Pak or Custom lineup with the proper flex, head, etc.

I’ll agree I question the fitting results a little. You’re swing speed with a quick tempo would generally put you in a standard S flex, or an R flex could work as well, depending on the shaft and your feel preference. Based just on swing speed and tempo, probably a standard S flex. I understand why you like the R flex in the AMT and the MPF Pro Series+ R flex as slightly more flexible will always feel better and like I said, I have no problem recommending someone that could play an S flex instead play an R flex if the feel and performance are good. If you hit a bunch of shots side by side with a standard R flex and standard S flex I think you would be surprised that how little of a difference in actual performance there is. Of course it depends on the type of shafts your comparing and if there are key specification differences there could be noticeable differences. In the end, on the shafts, go with what feels best and provides you the trajectory characteristics and distance you want.

As far as heads, we don’t compare ours with others. You can see playability differences in our MPF data on our website. That would be the best way to compare what you might expect form the overall playability between two models. TS3’s have been our best sellers and get rave reviews. The newer TS3.5 is a stronger lofted version with a little wider sole and has a different internal technology to enhance feel and performance. I don’t think you can make a bad decision choosing either one. I would focus on the lofts and which iron provides you the distance and trajectory that best fits what you’re looking for.

Thanks Britt! How would the Score LT play vs the AMT and the Pro Series?
Difficult to compare profiles of the three because the MPF is discrete flex .370, the Score LT is a combination flex .370 and the AMT is a taper tip .355 discrete flex. that being said, I can still look at some aspects of the designs and say the the Score LT and the AMT Red, both being steel, have similar deflection numbers in the R flex, but overall the AMT seems to have a slightly firmer profile. The MPF R flex would be slightly softer in the butt section than the AMT and overall slightly softer. The MPF would be similar to the Score LT in the butt section, but slightly firmer in the tip section.

Overall the Score LT is a highly undervalued shaft, in my opinion. It’s a great value shaft that plays like a premium steel. It’s design was used by at least one major OEM as it’s stock shaft for many many years. When they stopped, TT offered it to us and we branded it Score LT and have never looked back. It is our stock steel in our PAKs. Definitely worth a try if you think you want to stay with a steel and not have to spend a lot.
