I got fitted for Apex DCB with recoil dart regular 65g shafts 4 years ago. Since then when I’ve tried to add more release to my swing, I get a lot of long left misses, and too many right misses when I don’t. 7 iron swing speed can be from 80 to 83mph when I’m trying to fully release. Minus 5 angle of attack. So earlier this year bought on a whim Takomo 101mk2 with 105g stiff steel shafts. Now I must release the club aggressively or I will get a low short fade. Dispersion still is better with the Takomo vs the Apex. But with these steel shafts, I get some hand pain after a round, didn’t with graphite.
Im an 11hc, looking for a sweet spot in between in shaft grams, stiffness. Think my current graphite irons are too soft light and loose, steel shafts too heavy and stiff. What would be an ideal Maltby set of irons for me, that would let me release without long left hooks, while avoiding hand pain?
I’d also note that though straighter, the steel shaft clubs are slightly reducing my launch angle(from 22 to 20.7 avg), height, and giving me a shallower descent than ideal. Was thinking of TS1m, TS3, or TE+ head with steelfiber95 shafts(cw or not?) to split the difference between my 2 very different iron sets. I don’t have a particularly smooth swing tempo. Tend to hit thin irons.
