I was hoping to get some advice on fitting my wife for some clubs. I was thinking about putting her on some of the new 980 irons with MaxFlex shafts in SF Flex. She’s about 5’5″ and hits her current L flex driver (14*) about 100 yards (sub 50mph driver). I believe it is at 44.5″. I had some old Snake Eyes Python heads (746 MPF) and built them to standard L flex and Maltby women’s graphite length (36.5″ 7 iron) but they sure do look long for her to my eye. She has difficulty getting them into the air. Her 8 iron (35*) can get to around 60 yards.
I am actually wondering about cutting them 1 inch short of women’s standard *steel* length. So a 35″ 7 iron. The current iron shafts are high launch, 66gr, 40″ raw length, .370″ tip. They seem like they’re a lot of work for her, which is why I am also wondering about something in the junior category unless the SFF MaxFlex is the basically that. But maybe cutting the shaft down would lighten them up enough? Unless the bottom of bore to ground is like 0.5″ or something.
I would appreciate any help, advice, and guidance. Thank you.
