Hello, I am thinking about reshafting a Callaway X12 1 iron (MPF 989!) I have sitting around to try out as a driving iron. Just curious about options and tip diameter on this. The Callaway pre-owned site says that standard length for this 1 iron would be 40″. What tip size? And would there be any benefit to a graphite hybrid shaft vs a graphite iron shaft other than potential weight differences? Any other considerations? I would not be doing this work myself but taking it to a local shop. Thanks in advance.

We have in our database that the X12 irons took a .370″ parallel tip shaft. No idea the head weight, but if Callaway says 40″ is the standard length, I would want to know if that was with a graphite or steel shaft originally. doesn’t really matter I guess as you want the length to fit you. That might be 40″, but if it’s best for you at 39.5 or 40.5, you should be able to make it work.

As far as using an iron shaft or Hybrid shaft, I suppose you can use either as long as they are .370″. I would use an iron shaft since it is a 1 “iron”, but again, really doesn’t matter. There are a lot of options in shafts to choose from. Personally , I have the Steelfiber 95 in our KE4 TC Utility DI and really like it. You need to decide what weight you want and then, of course, pick the flex that matches your swing speed and tempo.
