What length are you starting from and has the shaft already been trimmed? For example, starting from the 41″ blank, if it is a shaft that has been trimmed for a #5 iron (1.5″ from the tip and to length form the butt for a playing length of 38″), and you cut an additional 4 inches from the butt, then your looking at a 34″ playing length approximately depending on the bottom of the bore to groundline of the iron the shaft is in. Bottom line is at that short a length, the characteristics will probably change a bit. In theory if nothing is done to the head weight, characteristics will not change, but that extreme of a reduction will make the shaft play different. Generally trimming from the butt end of the shaft, which is the stiffest end of the shaft due to the diameter, the shaft could play more flexible, but when the trim is that much more, the 4″ more, the characteristic change is probably the opposite. It will feel and play firmer.
