Hello, Yesterday I replaced a shaft in a Titleist T150 iron head. After removing the shaft, a brass weight stayed in the head. I applied heat to the head and picked at the brass tip for probably 30 min but couldn’t get it out. I finally ended up installing the new shaft with the brass weight still in the head and the shaft seemed to go in all the way. Is there a trick or tool that can be used to extract a brass weight out of a head for future repairs? I have only come across this issue with Titleist clubs. Thanks.

Brass is soft and easy to drill out, so if it doesn’t come out on it’s own, drill it out. You can use reamers like our spiral fluted reamers (GW0115) or any drill bit that is the right size for the hosel. If the iron is .355″, which Titleist usually are, you could use a 11/32″ (.343″) or an “S” size (.348″) and you should be able to drill it out. You just want to be sure to not use a bit that is too big and may cause you to make the hosel diameter larger. If an iron has a .370″ diameter hosel, you could start with a 23/64″ (.359″) and if that didn’t do it, a “U” size bit is .368″.

Thanks Britt. I wanted to reuse it since I didn’t want to throw off the swing weight and didn’t have any on hand. I have some lead tip weights but I don’t like that the head extends the shaft by approx 1/16 of an inch. the Brass weights seem to install more flush so I guess I’ll need to order some brass weights.
