I currently have Ping G30 irons with Ping CFS Distance steel shafts (stiff). Since I’ve gotten a bit older, I’m looking to replace the shafts with either regular steel or graphite. Can you confirm that these take taper shafts, and can you recommend a compatible steel and graphite taper shaft as replacement? I’ve built several sets and re-shafted others before, but haven’t worked on an OEM tapered club before. Should it be relatively easy to pull these G30 heads. I have a heat gun and vice. Thanks.

First, they are taper tip, requiring an .355 tip shaft. There are many options in lightweight steel. Without knowing more about your trajectory needs, clubhead speed, etc. it is difficult to be specific with a recommendation. You might look at the Elevate Series from True Temper (TT0149), the NS Pro Modus 105 from Nippon (NP0016), or the NS Pro 950 GH Neo (NP0027) from Nippon. Not knowing how light you want to go, these are just a few to get you looking at some various options in steel. In graphite, .355 taper tip choices are fewer, but there options. The Paderson Kinetixx TS-I Series irons (PK0105) come in .355 in A, R and S flex options. The UST Recoil has a 95 gram option and an 80 gram option (US0085, US0106), and even a 65 gram option if you want to go really light (US0100). Finally, SteelFiber has options in .355 70g (AT0020IE), 80 gram (AT0019IE), and 95 gram (AT0015IE).
