I have been asked to do a shaft replacement on a Cobra S3 Max ladies LH driver, current shaft is Fujikura womens flex. This is an older model without any feature for loft adjustment. I do have a shaft puller and some experience in pulling shafts from “single material” club heads like steel, titanium or real wood. I have never attempted a shaft pull from a composite head. I think this Cobra S3 Max is one of those composite heads and I fear I could destroy the head by using normal heat-gun procedures. Any comments or thoughts about this?

Composite heads are tricky. From the images I could find, my guess is the composite is in the crown. Not that you couldn’t do it, but since you have not done it before, you might seek out assistance from someone who has. Or, you could send it in to us and we could pull it for you. If you try, the key is to keep the composite part of the head cool. Wrap it in a wet towel. The only way to heat it is with a heat gun. Heat slowly, in 30 second intervals to begin, then cut it to 15 seconds after 60 seconds of heating. Heat for 30 seconds, then wait 30 to 45 seconds, then heat, etc. Might take a few minutes. Hopefully the puller you have will allow you to load he head so that when the epoxy bond does yield, the head will move. Stop heating immediately once you see the head move.
