How does Golfworks establish an MPF rating for shafts listed in their catalog?
We have a formula for calculating the MPF that is based on any particular shafts specifications. We measure each shaft and compare to the listed specifications. Shaft flex, weight, torque, bend point and tip stiffness are the key specifications we look at. The MPF for shafts was designed to help narrow down the choices. It really is more of a tool for eliminating choices, than specifically selecting a shaft for a player. It will put you in the ball park, and from there, the player or the club fitter will need to narrow down the choices based on weight, price, brand material, trajectory needs, color … whatever else, through discussion and testing, that can help get to the right fit.
