Looking to replace the shafts on my TS2’s (nippon modus tour 120 S currently). I’m getting a lot of spin and ballooning lately. I am a high handicapper in the low 20’s and I’m looking for an easier shaft to swing, lower launch, and some consistency. 150 yard shot I’m between 7-8 iron, Driver swing speed is low 100’s

Looking at

Mitsu MMT iron shaft (are they worth the cost?)

Aldila NV iron

Maltby MPF iron shaft

Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

What you’re asking for is kind of a challenge. The Pro Modus 120 S is a low to mid trajectory and spin shaft and is the most consistent when comparing similar steel options. The Dynamic Gold 105 or 120 are Low/Mid and Low trajectory shafts respectively and most likely would not change what you’re seeing. The MMT is a really good product and is classified as a Mid trajectory, so you would be moving to a shaft that is actually designed for a higher trajectory than what you’re playing. Same for the NV and the MPF is a mid to high trajectory product. Low trajectory iron shafts that are “easier to swing” are, as I said, a challenge. All that being said, every player is different and you never know how a different shaft will perform for you, no matter what the specs or trajectory profile is. One you might look at in addition to the ones you listed is the Pro 75/95 iron by Fujikura. It has slightly lower torque which indicates a slightly stiffer tip section. I would offer as well that our MPF plays on the stiffer side of each flex, so an S flex in the MPF would be pretty firm and might be worth a try, and would be the least expensive. I would say that you’re probably going to have do some testing to know for sure. Try a shaft on your #6 or #7 iron and if it doesn’t work, at least you have only the expense of one shaft.
