I have a problem with grips slipping off the end of the shaft about an inch or so. They seem to slowly work their way to this point after the club is used a while. I have never had this problem before in many years of regripping.

Is it one specific type of grip it has happened with, or multiple models? Do you know the butt diameter of the shafts on the clubs it is happening to? And finally, what kind of grip tape and solvent are you using? I’ve seen it happen on rare occasions and usually it is related to either an incompatible grip core size and shaft butt size, or the solvent never dries under the butt end of the grip due to an inconsistency in the core of the grip.

Grip tape might be the issue in that Golfsmith has been gone for a while. Have to guess the tape is at least a year old. If the tape has been kept inside and not exposed to humidity it could still be OK. If the solvent is either our Pro blend or All Purpose, they are both reasonably fast drying, meaning you should be able to hit the clubs in a couple of hours, at most. If you bought Brampton from us, it takes a lot longer (possibly 6 to 8 hours). Solvents also dry at different rates depending on the grips. Inconsistency in the core diameter of the grip refers to the diameter in the butt end may be larger than the mouth of the grip and that could create a situation where the butt end is not tight to the shaft and grip tape, making the adhesion not sufficient. I doubt that is the case with the Crossline. We sell tons of those and I have installed my fair share and not had an issue. I think maybe just try waiting a little longer to see if that does it. I am assuming the shaft butt diameter is the same size or larger than the grip core size. If the shaft butt diameter is .580 for example, and the grip core diameter is .600, it could possibly cause the grip not to adhere completely if you don’t add an extra layer of tape to make up the .020 difference in diameter. It is puzzling and I wish I could give yo a more definitive reason why it’s occurring. Let me know if it continues to be a problem after you have a chance to install and wait longer.

Thanks Britt. These are .58 grips on graphite iron and hybrid shafts. The grip tape is from Golfsmith. The grips are Lamkin crossline. I am not sure what you mean by an inconsistency in the core of the grip. I have recently also installed Winn grips and this does not happen. My only thought at this point is to wait a lot longer before I use the club, maybe a week! Oh, and the solvent is from Golfworks, recent.
