I am curious what the differences are between the old and new hybrids. Is it mostly the adjustability or other things? I am considering a KE4 Tour FDI iron as well. It doesn’t seem like those are going to be updated soon necessarily, but let me know if I’m wrong!

I recently bought some TS3s with Dynamic Gold S300 shafts and love them and am wondering about hybrid clubs with the stiff MPF iron shafts in them to get some more weight than the hybrid shaft. Also wondering about the same thing with Mitsubishi MMTs over the hybrid Tensei shaft. Is this something you guys do or are there reason to do the hybrid shaft instead?

New hybrids are not adjustable. They are a different shape than the TC hybrids. I think I described in another post as being somewhere between the TC hybrids and the HYWaY utility in shape and size. We are planning an update to the FDI’s at some point, but to be honest the current ones are so good we are keeping them through this year for sure. Any update will not a major departure from what they are now.

As far as using the MPF iron shafts or the MMT iron shafts in the hybrids, no problem at all. The basic difference in the hybrid shafts vs the iron shafts is the raw length to accommodate longer hybrid lengths, and the weight. If you can achieve the lengths you want using the iron shafts, they are perfectly suited to be used in hybrids. You will need to pay attention to the headweight of the hybrid you are suing them in and trim them accordingly, cross referencing the closest number iron head and it’s weight to know how much to trim. In other words, if the hybrid head weighs the same or close to a standard #3 iron head, trim the tip as you would for the #3 iron. Tip trimming is based on the head weight to achieve the designated flex.

Thanks also for the information on the FDIs. Seems like the 19 degree FDI could be perfect for me. My 5 iron carries 200, I have a 20 degree 4h that carries about 205, and I have a 16 degree 2 hybrid that carries 225. Thinking the 19 degree FDI could replace the 20 degree 4H and gap out a bit better. I have been helped by reading your thoughts on shafts on your own FDIs elsewhere. Is it viable to play a lighter steel shaft in the FDI as well?
